Reimbursement for Comprehensive, Multidisciplinary Care

Global fees have been implemented for a variety of complex or comprehensive models of clinical activity. Reimbursement models for other, well-established examples of multidisciplinary care (eg, organ transplantation and cancer management) should be studied and adapted, as appropriate, to the surgical treatment of obesity. The organization of facilities and programs for these other examples of multidisciplinary care may also be relevant for weight loss surgery. Experts recommend the use of global fees that encompass the full range of longitudinal care for patients, including preoperative assessment and management and long-term postoperative monitoring and support.³⁵
