Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

BMI is perhaps the most important single guideline in assessing obesity and making treatment decisions.  BMI is determined by dividing a person’s weight in pounds by the square of his height in inches multiplied by a factor of 703. The index is valid for both men and women but it does have some limits. Because muscle weighs more than fat, it may overestimate body fat in athletes and others who have a muscular build. On the other hand, it may underestimate body fat in older persons and those who have lost muscle mass.

BMI Calculator:

1. Height:   feet     inches
2. Weight:  pounds
