The LAP-BAND^® System is made of silicone and has an inflatable inner band. This band transitions to a silicone tube that connects the inflatable section to an access port, which allows postoperative adjustment of the stoma diameter and pressure.

Since the LAP-BAND^® System was approved for use in the United States, the system has continued to evolve and is available in multiple band sizes.

The new LAP-BAND AP^™ System has a number of important new design features that make it the most advanced adjustable gastric band. These include:

• 360º OMNIFORM^TM technology, which evenly distributes pressure and provides complete coverage of the stomach anatomy
• Widest band available (19 mm), which creates a broader area of stomach contact to ensure secure placement
• Soft, precurved, individual sections on the inner aspect of the band minimize the potential for leaks due to unwanted creases or folds
• The highest available fill volume (up to 14 cc), which offers greater flexibility for more precise adjustments
• A new unlocking mechanism, which facilitates repositioning the band during surgery if necessary. A positive lock marker ensures the device is securely fastened
• A new streamlined design, which makes the band easier to insert

The new LAP-BAND AP^™ System is available in two sizes:

• APS is indicated for most patients and is considered the standard size
• APS fill range: 0-10 cc
• APS inner area: 196-705 mm²
• APL is for special cases when a larger band is required
• APL fill range: 0-14 cc
• APL inner area: 222-899 mm²
